A Spiritual Gorge

Dan and I had the chance to meet with Pastor Scott Bledsoe from Household of Faith in Gonzales, Louisiana today. He and his wife, Vanessa, are incredible people and are doing amazing things with us in Africa. I’ll tell you more about that next, but while we were talking, Pastor Scott was telling us about his experience at the Hillsong Conference this past week…

He said that by the end of the conference he was so full spiritually that he didn’t even want to eat. This really hit me. We talk about being “emotional eaters” and going to food (and lots of other things) instead of God when we’re not satisfied with life. That’s something we all hear. But to hear it from the other side–of being on a spiritual binge and it actually killing our appetite for food. I don’t know the feeling of being that spiritually overstuffed. We can go to God and He lays this unbelievable feast in front of us anytime we want it and we just walk around the table and nibble at it. How dumb is that? And if we would just dive in like we do at the dinner table, how different would our lives be? Lots to think about…

Anway, back to what they’re doing in Africa. Mrs. Lita Veron has helped Scott and Vanessa raise money for Zimbabwe. They wanted to raise $100,000 to build and operate a church and CarePoint for 2 years. Their goal was to take the entire year of 2007 and raise that money. The amazing thing is that they were at $75,000 a month ago!

Zimbabwe Kids

So there are thousands of orphans and vulnerable children in Masvingo, Zimbabwe who are now going to be given food, education, medical and spiritual care. We just sit back in awe as God has pulled all of this together. Keep watching the Children’s Cup website for updates on it–it’s going to be huge.

  1. Oh my goodness Vicki! That is some powerful ‘food for thought”, I mean the idea of just nibbling is what distrurbs me the most. Am I nibbler, I don’t want to be a nibbler, I wanna be stuffed on My Lord. Ohhh… sigh…. I need to do some self inventory. Thanks for the thought.

  2. Geeze. Post date July 12th….and it’s September something. I forgot you created a blog! I check Dan’s about twice a week. Shawn Wilkerson is a good friend to me, but we never see each other and rarely talk these days. I love this post - by the way!
